Checking Credit Card

Travel rewards credit cards seem to be very popular nowadays, as more and more people are considering them in order to enjoy some really nice benefits when traveling. However, before settling upon one, you should know everything that it offers, especially the requirements it comes with, so you can enjoy its full potential!

Unfortunately, a lot of people aren’t aware of this and sign up for one just for the sake of having a travel rewards card. Even more, they end up not being to use all the points they manage to gather.

Below you can find a short list with three of the most common mistakes you can make when choosing a travel credit card:

Not knowing how much money you should spend in order to qualify for rewards

The idea is simple: you need to make sure that you won’t end up spending just to get points. There are cards which require you to spend $6,000 in the first three months, in order to receive an additional 50,000 points. But is it worth spending $2,000 per month just to get a few bonuses? Probably not, we’d say.

Our recommendation is to look for various cards, since there are some travel rewards cards who require you to spend just $4,000 in the first three months in order to be eligible for the bonus. Stick to a card which you can keep up with.

Not understanding how the points can be redeemed

This is actually funny, since people manage to gather points, but aren’t able to use them to their advantage. Specifically, some cards allow you to use the points just to book on certain airlines or hotels, while others ask you to go through their booking agent. Make sure you do your ‘homework’ and be completely informed about the bonuses and how you can redeem them before signing up!

Not checking the annual fees

Finally, there are the annual fees! You need to make sure that the bonuses you get are actually worth more than what you’re paying for the car. Otherwise, it just doesn’t make sense to own one of these cards, right?

In other words, if you pay $100 for a travel rewards card, you want a bonus that’s bigger than $100!
