Credit card rewards are great and everybody who owns a card with such perks is after them. But there’s a catch: as long as you’re aware of a few tricks, you can get the most out of them!
Whether you’re new to credit card rewards or already a veteran, we’re sure that the following tips can come in handy and help you earn more, save more and get even more value out of your rewards.
Let’s see what we have in store for you, shall we?
Evaluate your cards
First thing first, start by evaluating your current credit cards. Have you been earning rewards but not using them? Are you no longer using your card’s benefits? Relax, this doesn’t mean you’re stuck, as you can ask your issuer for a so-called “product change”.
Specifically, you have the possibility to upgrade or downgrade to a different card within the issuer’s offer. In most cases, this doesn’t involve a new application and you can retain the same account number and history. And, besides getting access to better rewards, you will also keep your credit history!
Consider a retention offer
Ok, so after taking a look at your cards, some of them aren’t so tempting anymore. Instead of closing them, think about a retention offer. Or, if you prefer, ask your issuer to give you an incentive in order to keep you as a customer.
In most cases, you will be offered bonus points or a lower annual fee or waiver. And this is practically the easiest way of getting better credit card rewards! Simple, right?
Keep track of your rewards
Being aware of your points, including knowing exactly how many you have, from all your credit cards, can be critical if you’re planning to travel based on your rewards.
If you know you have a lot of travel points, you may believe it’s enough to cover for a full trip. However, in order to avoid any surprises, track your points and know when they expire. By doing this, you will never end up with expired points and can make the most out of all of them!
