Hideo Kojima joins Sony to work at new PS4 game

After years of successes like Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, Hideo Kojima, one of the world’s most famous game developers, officially left Konami and will soon join Sony, in order to work at a new game, especially designed for the Japanese company’s console, the PlayStation 4.

According to Fortune, the announcement was made after almost nine months of rumors and speculations, as Sony announced that Kojima Productions, Mr. Kojima’s new development studio, will start working at their first title, a PS4 exclusive.

Sony is looking forward to working with Mr. Kojima

“He is one of the most creative talents in the history of games,” said Andrew House, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment about Hideo Kojima, in a video announcing the partnership. “Kojima-san, on behalf of PlayStation and together with the fans, we’d like to offer our full support on your new journey.”

Hideo Kojima is well known for creating two of the most famous game franchises, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, the latter selling more than 46 million copies worldwide.

Both MGS and Silent Hill series will continue

For the gaming industry, his departure will have a big impact. Back in March, when Mr. Kojima’s name was removed from Konami’s website and his studio was shut down, everybody started questioning his future in the industry. And this was happening even though an announcement reading that “Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements,” was made.

Currently, Hideo Kojima and Sony have an agreement for just one game, as Sony is not investing in hist studio. As for the future of Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, they will definitely have sequels, since Konami owns the rights, but we’re very curious about what plans Mr. Kojima has.
