Checking Credit Card

Despite what some people say, credit cards have a lot of advantages, allowing you to put aside some important amounts of money. But how many of you knew that you can use them to save on buses or even trains?

After a quick research, we weren’t able to find a lot of travel cards designed for those who prefer these two means of transportation. After all, when you think of credit cards, you automatically link them with plane tickets, as the folks over at NerdWallet point out.

There is more than just one option!

Apparently, your card issuer can give you more options, so you can easily save on buses or train tickets by optimizing credit cards and the reward programs they imply.

To be more specific, when you’re making various travel purchases, some rewards credit cards will offer you specific bonus points. But you were all aware of this. Still, the concept of “travel purchases” can significantly vary among card issuers.

The best part about this is that most major card issuers consider tickets for bus lines or passenger railways “travel purchases” as well.

For example, we have the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Both these offer bonus rewards points on such purchases. They can be redeemed for cash or used in the Chase Ultimate Rewards bonus mall.

And this is not all, since the Reserve card offers $300 as annual travel credit, this applying even to trains and buses.

Signing up for a new credit card? Don’t forget about the bonus!

Another way through which you can save on buses and trains is by taking advantage of the sign-up bonus you receive each time you get a new credit card.

Take the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Master Card, which is the best example. New cardholders get 40,000 bonus miles if they manage to spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months. If this condition is met, they can redeem $400 travel credit. And you guessed it, train and bus tickets are also eligible.

So, who has second thoughts on going somewhere by car now?
