Even though, when it comes to revenue, Amazon is far from dominating the tops, the company led by Jeff Bezos is definitely the most valuable!

According to Fortune, the company’s stock managed to triple in the last two years, after an impressive market run, reaching a total value of $922, meaning that the retailer’s overall value is now $439.8 billion. Basically, this means that they are surpassing the combined values of competitors like Walmart, Costco, Target, Macy’s, and Kohl’s.

Revenue is not everything

As a comparison, Walmart, which is currently the largest retailer in the county, had a revenue of $482 billion in 2016, while Amazon reached just $136 billion. Still, Walmart’s value is now $218.1 billion, followed by Costco, with $73.8 billion, Target, with $29.6 billion, as well as Macy’s, with $8.9 billion, and Kohl’s, with $6.6 billion.

After some basic math, we can observe that the combined value of these retailers is $337 billion, while Amazon alone is still with about $100 billion up front. Let that sink in for a moment.

It seems that this entire growth is the result of Amazon’s success when it comes to investors, but its competitors market regression as well. To be more specific, it their stock went up by almost 200% since January 2015, Walmart went down with 15%, while Target had an even rougher period, its stock dropping with 30%.

The same thing happened with Macy’s and Kohl’s, both of them registering droppings, with 50% and 30%, while Costco is the only retailer on this list who actually registered positive results: an 18% stock growth.

Amazon’s expansion to other areas had a huge positive impact on the company

Finally, it’s worth mentioning the Amazon has also reached a point in which they’re much more than your average online retailer. Thanks to their cloud computing business, as well as the development of products like Alexa or the Fire brand, alongside the grocery deliver venture, they’ve reached the status of a complete financial entity.
