After major announcements were made, including a whole new operating system, Windows 10, it’s pretty clear that 2015 can be considered one of Microsoft‘s most important years ever.

Still, this was predictable, as ever since Windows 10 was announced, back in 2014, tech fans all over the world seemed to be excited about new features. These included the virtual assistant, Cortana, and the new Edge web browser.

Besides this, Microsoft also announced the Windows Universal App Platform, allowing developers to build one app that works across all Windows 10 devices.

People loved Windows 10

Ever since the launch in July, Windows 10 has seen massive adoption, according to PC World, and, overall, the OS was very well received.

Moving on, Microsoft introduced a new line of devices, from which the most spectacular is the Surface Book, with its powerful keyboard and serious processing power. Still, if it’s going to be a serious competitor for Apple’s MacBook Air, it remains to be seen.

Microsoft also wanted to improve its smartphone line-up, despite sacking thousands of people from its phone hardware division and registering a market share decline from 2.7 percent to 2.2 percent.

Not a great year for Lumia smartphones, though

Both Lumia 950 and 950 XL were supposed to bring Windows smartphones back in the tops, but unfortunately, things went a bit different. The phones were very well built and features high-end specs and some very interesting features.

For example, they were able to use iris recognition to unlock the devices, which is something you don’t see pretty often. But, once again, the small selection of apps lead to a fail, but Microsoft won’t stop building smartphones!

Finally, another exciting reveal was the HoloLens augmented reality headset, about which we’re very curious to find out more in 2016.

Looking ahead to next year, we’re looking forward to seeing a more aggressive strategy from the company, in order to push their products to as many users as possible.
